Sharon is Swimmer of the Year
Dublin Swimming Club's Sharon Pickering capped a great season by winning Swimmer of the Year 2012 after the final open water league swim at the Docklands race. Fellow member Anne Marie Burke had won the race to add to the fun but it was the consistency of Sharon throughout the season which won her the crown. Indeed it was a great weekend for the women with Sandra winning the Wicklow 3k the previous day. Overall the women ended up with six race victories and a superb second place in the team event.
For the men, it was a case of great improvement on 2011. 27 men raced throughout the summer and points were scored in most races. We almost doubled our points tally and ended up in 7th place in the team competition. There were lots of top 10s and 20's but the highlight was the number of new male swimmers who had their first taste of the open water races.
WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO SWAM THE SEA RACES IN 2012.
