Liffey Swim Successes 2014
Well done everyone (especially the first timers) who took part in the 2014 Liffey Swim. We had one of the biggest contingents with 35 swimmers - 16 men and 19 women.
In the ladies, we WON the team prize. The team was made up of Orla Walsh who came 3rd overall and swam brilliantly in the company of the two fastest swimmers and eventual winner and runner up. Una Ryan came in 11th, Niamh Dunne19th and Mary Rose Keegan in 24th.
Ceall O'Dunlaing (11th) won the vets prize in the men's with Niall O'Sullivan claiming fourth overall and the new Rosie Hackett Bridge prize. As a team the men were 6th. The numbers taking part were well way up on previous years with 257 men and 111 women. Looking forward to lots more Dublin first timers doing the race next year...
2014 Dublin Masters Open Sprint Gala
Thanks to everyone involved in the day, the results can be downloaded at this link
( Entries Closed )
Dublin Swimming Club is delighted to be back on the masters gala calendar. The club ran successful open galas from the late 1970’s to the early 1990’s. Indeed in 1980, David Wilkie (former Olympic champion) even competed.
The 50m breaststroke events are named in honour of our late Patron Fergus Barron. He was an All Ireland breaststroke champion in his day and was one of the people who helped develop masters swimming in Ireland. He sadly passed away in 2013. The winner of this trophy will be the person who records closest to a world record time in their category as determined by the italian masters calculator [ link here - the event identified by 50RA ]
There will also be 4x50m men's, women's and a mixed free and medley relays.
Not Yet a Swim Ireland Member - No problem: We have liaised with Swim Ireland to add the gala in the list of events which are available to all through special membership. This will allow non SI members to become members for events from September through to the end of the year for the reduced price of €15. (more details here).
The gala will wind up with a fancy dress 25m dash. Thus is open to one nominated member of each club and while prize will be given, they will unlikely be awarded to those who dress up as frogmen / women with flippers for speed !
The pool is just a couple of minutes from the M50 and N81. For directions and to see the pool click here

Battling Performances in Clontarf
Michelle Dunne really put the foot down towards the end of her 1,500m to score a memorable victory at the Bull Wall, just defeating a plethora of NAC swimmers in the process. While there were no Vikings out a tall ship had passed by earlier on what was a cool evening with winds coming from the northern parts of Europe. In the men's race, Niall O'Sullivan claimed 7th place and the vets prize. Good numbers out and look forward to seeing ye out the weekend (and not a jellyfish to be seen).
Good luck to our Lough Dann swimmers on Saturday.
