About Dublin Swimming Club
Founded in 1881, Dublin Swimming Club is Dublin’s and Ireland’s oldest and friendliest swimming club. We have both a men’s and women’s team as well as junior members. We heartily welcome new Masters members to our club. Dublin Swimming Club is ideal if you wish to compete or simply enjoy your swimming. We welcome enquiries from all interested in swimming. Members hail from Cork, Clare, Wexford, Monaghan, Kilkenny, Northern Ireland, Spain, France, England, Italy and elsewhere. We even have a few native Dubs.
Heritage You Can Touch
The club boasts the oldest swimming trophy in Ireland. Dating from 1882, the Ormonde Cup is presented annually to the first male club swimmer home in our club sea race, usually held mid-Summer (end June / early July) at Windsurfers Pier, between Dun Laoghaire and Seapoint in south County Dublin. An only slightly more modern trophy, the Purcell Cup, dating from 1927, is presented to the first club lady home. During the off season, the club holds a number of members only races with winners also receiving fabulous old trophies. Races include a 400m pool race, an 800m pool race and a St Stephen’s Day swim at Sandycove.
